Sports & Remedial Massage
What is Sports & Remedial Massage
Recommended for anyone who exercises regularly or participates in a sport, Sports & Remedial Massage are Soft Tissue Therapy treatments in a sporting or injury context.
Sports Massage focuses on ensuring that you perform optimally in your chosen sport, both physically and mentally.
Remedial Massage focuses on helping you to recover from an injury so that you can return to your daily activities and/or sport as quickly as possible with my support.
You may have heard that Sports Massage “hurts,” or heard others say, “no pain, no gain.” However, sports massage should not hurt or be painful.
The purpose of the treatment is to work with your nervous system, and if the treatment hurts, you’ll tense up, which works against your nervous system. Yes, we may find tender or sore spots as part of the process, and if we do, we’ll work to calm them down so that you leave feeling better—and in less pain—than when you walked through the door.
What are the benefits
The focus of Sports & Remedial Massage is to:
Address acute and/or chronic injuries
Feel ready to train again
Identify and monitor areas of concern
Calm the body, reduce pain, and help you to relax
Improve functional flexibility and range of motion
When included as a regular part of your training programme, I can also provide guidance on injuries and help you recover to ensure that you can stay in the game.
I am available for ongoing support as part of your training programme. I also personally recommend coming in for treatments before and after an event as this helps you to prepare, both physically and mentally, for competition as well as calming your body down and relaxing after the event.
What should you expect
The focus of the treatment is to help you to compete, both physically and mentally, in your sport and/or to help you recover from injuries. Using a person-centred approach, you’ll be given the space and time to chat about your goals, sport or activity, and any injuries (both past and present) so that we can collaborate to help you succeed.
Treatment may include an assessment of any injuries and a gait analysis along with a combination of techniques designed to ensure that you achieve your desired outcome or goal. If needed, I may also apply K-tape to help modify the pain.
We may also discuss injury rehabilitation and put together an exercise programme that fits within your existing training programme or lifestyle to ensure that you return to your sport or activity as quickly as possible.
The first treatment is usually 75 minutes long, and follow-up treatments can be either 60 or 90 minutes.
